Edgbaston Campus

The University of Birmingham's main campus is in Edgbaston, about 3 miles southwest of Birmingham city center. At its heart stands the iconic Joseph Chamberlain Memorial Clock Tower, known affectionately as "Old Joe." This campanile, named after the university's first chancellor, symbolizes Birmingham's origins and its royal charter received in 1900. The campus also features the grand Aston Webb Building, home to the Great Hall.

In 1900, Lord Calthorpe donated the initial 25-acre site, and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie provided major funding. The original red brick buildings form Chancellor's Court, centered around Old Joe, the tallest free-standing clock tower in the world. The campus showcases a blend of architectural styles, including significant modernist influences. Notably, the Guild of Students building, designed by Holland Hobbiss, is an example of "Redbrick Tudorish" style.

Selly Oak Campus

Located south of the main campus, the Selly Oak campus was historically home to a federation of colleges focused on theology, social work, and teacher training. While many of these colleges have closed, the campus now hosts the Department of Drama and Theatre Arts and the University of Birmingham School, a secondary school sponsored by the university. Institutions like Woodbrooke College continue to support adult education on this campus.

Mason College and Queen's College Campus

Originally, the Victorian neo-gothic Mason College building in Birmingham city center housed the Faculties of Arts and Law until they moved to the Edgbaston campus in the early 1960s. Queen's College, a founding college of the university, merged its medical and scientific departments with Mason College in 1900 and eventually moved to Edgbaston. The original Queen's College building was largely demolished in the mid-1970s, except for its grade II listed façade.

Dubai Campus

In 2017, the University of Birmingham opened a campus in Dubai at Dubai International Academic City (DIAC). This campus moved to a new facility in 2022, inaugurated by Dubai Crown Prince Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum. The Dubai campus features faculty flown in or permanently staffed from the UK, offering a seamless extension of the university's academic excellence.
